Cadena Spanish Cafe

Hey blogging fam! Long time no talk! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season and I hope you’re already killing all your goals this new year! Life just got crazy for me, between having a baby and moving into our first house I’ve sort of put blogging on the back burner. I truly hope to make more content for you guys this year and make it the best it’s ever been!

Today’s blog post is going to be for all my local peeps. If you live in Ottawa I’m so excited to tell you about this! Back in August my family decided to open up a Cafe in Ottawa!! I know, crazy right?! They have a cute, comfy little place in Sandy Hill and so far everyone is loving the delicious coffee, the homemade latin comfort food and the staff! (AKA my Mama, Pops and Bro).

My mom had been brainstorming how to combine her love of teaching, her passion for her culture, and my parents shared a love for serving food into an awesome little business. My mom faced a lot of bumps in the road while chasing after this dream. She viewed multiple locations, she battled some self-doubt, she had to learn the ins and outs of running a small restaurant. She kept telling me that she wanted to make this happen, and voila: Cadena Spanish Cafe was born.

If you’re wondering the meaning behind the name it’s pretty simple. My mom’s maiden name is Cadena which means chain in Spanish. They aren’t just a “cafe” though. They also offer Spanish classes or tutoring to anyone who is looking to learn or practice their Spanish. My mom worked the majority of her life as a teacher and I promise you she is one of the good ones. She personally prepares a lesson for you based on your needs and she always makes her students feel comfortable. Whether you stop in for a coffee, a meal or for a Spanish lesson Sandra always makes you feel like an old friend. She is the Latin mom you never had, but always wanted!

Cadena Spanish cafe proudly serves Happy Goat Company Coffee! If you’ve never tried it before then you definitely need to pay us a visit to experience the rich flavours. The regulars usually stop in multiple times per day to get their coffee fix. My brother is quickly becoming a bomb barista, he’ll have your favourite coffee drink (hot or cold) ready in no time! My personal favourite is the dirty chai latte and my husband usually sticks to an Americano. Let’s just say this Spanish cafe don’t play around when it comes to espresso!

Who doesn’t love food? Correction: Who doesn’t love Spanish food? EMPANADAS, NACHOS, TACOS, TORTILLA DE PATATA, CHICKEN TINGA, PORK CARNITAS AND MORE. Spanish food is amazing, but if it’s not done right then it’s just wrong. Some best selling sandwiches are the Serranito, the Mananero, the Higo Fresco and the Tinga de Pollo. You also have the option of creating your very own custom sandwich to perfectly meet your taste buds or allergy needs! These folks know what they’re doing when it comes to serving up all your favourites. Trust me, I grew up with this food!! Everyone who tries it comes back for more. It’s healthy, home-y and 100% authentic.

You can take my word for it or you can stop in and see/taste for yourself how amazing Ottawa’s newest cafe is! Cadena Spanish Cafe is located at 323 Somerset Street East. They are open on weekdays from 8:00 am to 7:00pm and on weekends from 9:00 am to 7:00pm. Don’t forget to follow them on Instagram and Facebook for updates and food pictures!
